Activision confirms that this year’s Call of Duty will be a sequel to Modern Warfare (2019), a new Warzone experience built from the ground up

Yesterday we heard that the latest episode of Call of Duty Warzone was to be unveiled today. That wasn’t quite true, but what was true is that Activity would talk about it.

They just confirmed through the official Duty website that is this year Duty title will be a sequel to 2019 Modern Warfareand there is a new one war zone experience built from the ground up to fit in.

As previously confirmed, this new title will be led by Infinite Departmentalong with the new iteration of war zone. According to the publisher, it is a “new evolution of battle royale”.

It is also interesting to note that they confirm this new war zone will have an “all new play space and a new sandbox mode”. That sounds like a brand new map, but after the poor launch of Caldera that’s not the most surprising thing.

What is potentially most interesting is that both projects are being developed on a brand new engine.

It will be interesting to see how this new engine is used and where we can see improvements over previous titles.

We’ve known for a while that both projects were coming, though it’s good to finally get official confirmation.
