Bioshock creator Ken Levine’s current project is in development hell, and it looks like it’s his own fault

Ken Levine is best known for his work on bioshock, one of the groundbreaking games to be released in the industry. After the success of Bioshock Infinite, Levine wanted a change of pace – announce Irrational games would be no more, starting a new little studio called Ghost Story games.

It’s been almost eight years since that happened, and it still is Ghost Story games doesn’t come close to releasing a game, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

Journalist Jason Schreier spoke to current and former developers of ghost story, who don’t see the studio ready to release for another three years, are generous.

According to the employees, we need look no further than Levine itself as the cause of the problems. His management style has been well documented as a bad one, although the lack of oversight he enjoyed over the past eight years allowed it to reign supreme.

“Levine’s leadership style led to burnout and, according to former employees, caused a lot of pain.”

It’s a fact of the industry that not everything you make for a game finds its way into the final product. But it seems that Levine’s ambitions and inability to make final creative decisions have just led to a studio that crashes and seems like a miserable place to collaborate.
