If you hadn’t heard, Sony announced that they have bought Bungie for a cool $3.6 billion. Big deals like this don’t happen overnight, of course, and this one was reportedly six months in the making.
Website GamesIndustry.Biz’s Christopher Dring reports that “the deal has been in the works for the past 5/6 months. It is not a response to the Take-Two/Zynga or Microsoft/Activision deals.”
This news isn’t surprising, as it should be obvious to everyone that these deals are taking longer than a few weeks to work out. However, it is still certain that it is insane to see the announcement coming right after that of Microsoftand just before that Take Two’s purchase of zynga.
It’s been a crazy year for acquisitions, and we know it won’t end anytime soon. Jim Ryan has already confirmed that we can “expect more” regarding play station acquisitions, and it’s doubtful the rest of the industry is done with acquisitions for the year.
