Duty development studios seem to be expanding one after the other. Shortly after Infinity Ward announced a new studio in Austin, Texas, Sledgehammer Games announced a new studio in Guildford, UK, as part of its efforts to continue its global expansion.
Sledgehammer’s international ventures began in 2019 when it opened a studio in Melbourne, Australia, followed by a new studio in Toronto, Canada, this year. “In light of that success, we are focused on growing our team by going to places where we believe there is great talent,” reads a press release.
Guildford’s studio will partner with Melbourne and Toronto Sledgehammer teams to support Call of Duty Vanguard‘s Live Seasons and “future projects we have planned for years to come,” the announcement said.
Sledgehammer COO Andy Wilson released the following statement:
I’m just really excited to bring our studio brand to the UK along with the incredible franchise we get to work on. It’s another chance to do our own little part to grow the industry, in a place where there’s a lot of talented developers. As we have done at our other locations, we will be looking to partner with schools and universities to help nurture and grow the next generation of talent. It’s not just about finding people who already work in the industry, it’s about providing pathways for those looking to get in. I remember that discouraging feeling very well and it makes me happy to offer opportunities, especially as we come out of a historic pandemic.
Sledgehammer Guildford has already begun taking on a number of positions ranging from art and design to engineering and manufacturing.
