CD Projekt Red won’t be able to release the current-gen updates for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 this year.
Through Twitter notify the developer that both games will be delayed based on recommendations from the development oversight teams. Because of this recommendation, you can’t expect both games on the new consoles until next year.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be released sometime in the first quarter, while The Witcher 3 will arrive sometime in the second quarter of 2022. The delay really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, given that the studio stated in September that it won’t have a 2021 release for either title.
News of a possible delay was discussed during the Polish developer’s most recent shareholder results call.
“The goal is to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 by the end of this year,” said SVP Michał Nowakowski of the company at the time. “At the same time, taking into account the lessons we have learned over the past year and given that this project is still in development, we cannot say with complete certainty that the production schedule will not change.
With The Witcher 3, the situation is slightly different in the way this is mainly handled by the outside team, which is Saber Interactive, the company we’ve worked with before on Switch and also with updates in the past. “As with Cyberpunk 2077, our goal is to get that game out by the end of 2021. However, the development process is ongoing and we cannot be absolutely sure that the release schedule will not change.”
When The Witcher 3 comes out on both new consoles, it will be an enhanced version with visual improvements and will include upgrades such as ray tracing and faster loading times. It’s also the Complete Edition, meaning it includes both the Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone expansions. If you already own the game, you can simply upgrade it to the improved version for free.
