Elden Ring Graphics Team Felt Pressured Seeing Demon’s Souls PS5

FromSoftware boss Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed: Elden RingThe graphics team felt a little extra pressure after seeing Bluepoint Games’ stunning PlayStation 5 remake Demon Souls.

During an interview with SIDE magazine (issue 367, via Video Games Chronicle), Miyazaki was questioned about the graphical fidelity of the remake and whether it affected Elden Ring‘s development, to which he said FromSoftware tends to prioritize other aspects of game development over graphics and he feels “apologies” to the graphics team for working “extremely hard”.

“I’m pretty sure our graphic workers felt that pressure more than anyone else,” Miyazaki . said SIDE. “And not just with Elden Ring, but with all the games we make. Graphics fidelity is not something we put as a top priority. So this is always an area where I feel a little apologetic to my graphics team because I know they work extremely hard.”

Miyazaki went on to reveal that he has not played Demon Souls redo. As he said before, he avoids playing the games he makes because he doesn’t enjoy them like a new player would. “It brings up a lot of old emotions, a lot of old memories, and this gets a little overwhelming, and it doesn’t feel like playing anymore,” he added. “So I haven’t played the demons remake, but I’m really happy to see it get this fresh look, these brand new current-gen graphics.”

Elden Ring will be released on February 25, 2022 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC. The next-gen versions will be offered as free upgrades to those who purchase the game on last-gen consoles.
