Enter The Matrix Dev With ‘Fun’ ETM Compare With Matrix UE5 Demo

While we were all flowing The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience, a veteran game developer reminisced about the time he developed the 2003 video game Enter the Matrix at Shiny Entertainment.

Chandana Ekanayake, now co-founder and creative director of Outerloop Games, tweeted that he is “having fun” watching the stunning Unreal Engine 5 demo on the PlayStation 5 and comparing it to his time developing Enter the Matrix for PlayStation 2 (it has also been released on GameCube, Xbox, and PC).

In a separate tweet, Ekanayake and many of his followers noted that parts of the demo felt similar to: Enter the Matrix levels. He further revealed that Shiny Entertainment’s PS2 character models are built using 3D scans of the actors with patch modeling techniques. However, the number of patches at the time was limited due to hardware limitations.

The Unreal Engine 5 demo features highly realistic digital replicas of Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne-Moss.
