Gran Turismo 7 on sale in Russia

Sony has apparently pulled out Gran Turismo 7 from the PlayStation Store in Russia. Polyphony Digital’s latest racing title was set to release worldwide today, March 4, but now appears on the Russian Store as a “release date pending confirmation” on both PS4 and PS5.

Why has Sony pulled Gran Turismo 7 from sale in Russia?

Gran Turismo 7 Russia

While Gran Turismo 7 is available for purchase at most PlayStation stores worldwide, in Russia the game is not available for purchase through the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5. Instead of the game price and the ‘Add to Cart’ button is a message stating “release date pending confirmation” as noted by Eurogamer† Sony has yet to make an official statement, but the decision is believed to have been taken late in the evening of March 3, likely in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It is unknown if the game is still available in stores.

The move follows calls from many parts of the world, including Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, for Sony to pull their PlayStation Live services out of Russia. Microsoft has already withdrawn their products and services from sale in Russia, while Nintendo has put Nintendo eShop in maintenance mode after their payment processing service was unable to handle payments in rubles. Other developers taking their games off sale in Russia and Belarus include CD Projekt and Bloober Team, with more to come in the coming days.

In other news, rumors of an impending Project Spartacus reveal have picked up steam again, as some PS4 and PS5 players have reported receiving free PlayStation Now memberships when they renew their PlayStation Plus subscription. Elsewhere, Warren Spector, creator of Deus Ex and System Shock, is creating a brand new IP with his newest studio OtherSide Entertainment.
