Horizon Forbidden West director reveals game was delayed to avoid crunch

Mathijs de Jonge, the director behind Horizon Forbidden Westhas revealed that Guerrilla Games the sequel to the PS4 & PS5 postponed from 2021 to early 2022 to avoid the crunch.

Speaking to Now, an online newspaper run by Dunch, de Jonge said the team is also facing a number of challenges while working remotely due to the global coronavirus pandemic. He also made it clear that crunch culture was definitely not in the DNA of Guerrilla Games.

That happens very rarely with us. We are aware of the disadvantages of crunching, so we take this into account a lot in our planning. Of course, those who want to continue working on holiday are allowed to, but there is always a very clear position from the company that they don’t have to.

The Forbidden West might be released at the end of last year, but we might have had to work overtime. People should also be able to relax and take a vacation, [and] to be with family and friends. That also played a part in the decision to release the game now.
