Horizon Forbidden West Preload Live

The time has come. You can now pre-load Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 if you’ve pre-ordered the game. Size varies by region, as explained before, and there seems to be one patch one day bringing it to version 01.003,000. In the United States, the PS5 version of Horizon Forbidden West weighs 87,608 GB, in Europe 98,074 GB and the Japanese version 83,797 GB. PS4 users report that the game download size in Europe is about 90 GB for version 1.03.

How to preload Horizon Forbidden West

This can be a little confusing, so be patient. First of all, the PS4 version of Horizon Forbidden West offers the option to upgrade to the PS5 version at no extra cost. However, if you buy the PS4 version, you can only preload that version and not the PS5 upgrade† If you want to save $10, you’ll have to wait until launch day, claim the PS5 upgrade, then start downloading. If you buy the $70 PS5 version outright, you can start downloading the game right now.

It’s worth noting that if you want to buy the cheaper PS4 version with the intention of upgrading to the PS5 version later, you’ll need to buy Horizon Forbidden West on your PS4 or the web-based PS Store. If you use your PS5 console’s store page, you can only purchase the $70 PS5 version. For folks buying the game on disc, all you need to do is insert your PS4 disc into your PS5 and claim the free upgrade at launch.

Horizon Forbidden West is the last Sony first-party game to come with a free next-gen upgrade. Going forward, you’ll have to pay an additional $10 for PS5 copies.

In other news, Dead Island 2 may be out sooner than you think, and we’ve got the full changelog for the latest PS5 firmware update.
