Guerrilla Games has revealed that it had to refresh the loading screen tips of Horizon Forbidden West PlayStation 5 version because the game loads too fast, thanks to the console’s SSD. Folks at Engadget spoke to game director Mathijs de Jonge and technical director Michiel van der Leeuw, who discussed how they overcame the challenge to make Horizon Forbidden West an equally satisfying experience on PS4.
How Horizon Forbidden West PS5 Tips Renewed
“In Horizon Zero Dawn, we called it fast travel, but it may take maybe a minute to actually charge,” de Jonge said. “With the PS5 it might take four or five seconds, it loads so fast that players can’t even read the hints. We needed to add a really simple feature where it hangs on the loading screen long enough so that you can read at least one hint while loading.” If you are not interested in loading screen tips, you can disable the feature from the settings menu. As noted by IGN, the option to look for is ‘Standby screen mode’ and voila! It is not necessary to puree X. As for why Guerrilla Games bothered to refresh the loading screen tips, apparently when testing Horizon Forbidden West, the developer noticed that players relied on it.
Elsewhere, Guerrilla Games sang the praises of the SSD, arguing that it’s been a lifesaver for developers. “You don’t realize how easily games become a bottleneck,” Van de Leeuw tells Engadget. “If you’re running a PC game on a very fast SSD, it won’t load automatically in seven seconds. There’s so much work to do.” Most of the stores, including ours, were playing Horizon Forbidden West on the PS5, but from what we’ve read about the PS4 version, Guerrilla Games seems to have done a good job with the hardware.
In other news, Sony has rolled out a PS4 system update to fix Cyberpunk 2077 disc issues, and cyberpunk game ANNO: Mutationem is set to release in March.
