Insomniac Games has said it will develop Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart because the PlayStation 5 has given the development team access to “the widest range of techniques and the highest reliability we’ve ever had in weapon development.”
In an interview with GamesRadar, game director Mike Daly said guns will feel “absolutely great” thanks to the DualSense features. Creative Director Marcus Smith added that working on the PS5 has “been a paradigm shift in the way we do all things” due to near-instant loading screens, 3D audio, and graphics jump.
“You can look forward to some new developments that make the impact of a weapon feel absolutely amazing: custom adaptive triggers for each weapon that add new functions to the pull of the trigger itself, advanced VFX that bring visual spectacle over the top, haptics to giving each impact unique and physical sensations that allow weapons to further express their personality, and our signature creativity for exotic and unexpected weapon concepts is in full effect, ”said Daly.“ The weapons experience is starting to be incredible. ”
“It has been an incredibly rewarding process to learn to let go of legacy best practices that were in effect due to limited load times,” added Smith. “It’s exciting to think that we are so early in the life cycle and everyone is just scratching the surface of what can be done. So excited to know it’s only going to get crazier! “
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart currently has no release date, but it is expected to be released sometime in 2021.
