June updates for the Xbox app on PC: more collections, performance indicator and more

Welcome PC friends. I’m excited to share some progress from our team working on the Xbox app for PC! We want to thank everyone who sent us feedback in the Feedback Hub, tweeted their suggestions, weighed in on the r/XboxInsiders subreddit, or chatted with our many ambassadors.

We continue to make improvements to the backend of the app to make it run more smoothly and reliably, and have addressed the major reported issues and will continue to do so with updates to the app. There have also been updates to the app to make it easier to navigate, find, and install games. However, we are not done; so let’s get into it!

Game Performance Tuning Indicator

I’ve been to that place where you download a game, have your heart set on playing it, only to find out that your PC doesn’t actually meet the requirements to play it super well. You wish you knew before you download the game and get your hopes up. The good news is that the team has created a new feature that is starting to roll out that helps you see how well a game will run on your PC, before you download it. Click on a game’s details for additional information:

The app now compares the game’s performance on PC to similar specs to yours, to show a prediction of how well we expect the game to perform. If your PC isn’t up to the task of running a graphically demanding game, you can view the game’s system requirements for more details on what you need to run the game. As we continue to learn about game performance on similar PCs, you may not see a performance check for every game (especially recently added games) until we have enough information to share a recommendation. Keep checking back!

Recent updates: it’s easier to discover your next game

We recently made app navigation improvements and made it easier to find more games to play. All your browsing is now in the sidebar and game installs can be easily tracked with the new queue (appearing in the bottom left of your app with a notification when your game is done installing) so you can jump right into your next game.

You can find all the games you’re interested in in “Search” with greater precision, and now includes games from EA Play and Ubisoft Connect in search results. “Home” is where we’ve added more collections for you to explore. Team up with friends near or far with the new “Games to Play Together” collection. Jump, climb and fight as the action unfolds on your screen with the “Side scrollers” collection. Or put your brain to the test with casual adventures and epic story games found in the “Point and Click” collection. Whatever mood you’re in, you’re sure to find a game to play!

Help shape the future of the PC

Once again, a big thank you from our team for all your feedback while playing. We love hearing from you, so please keep sending your feedback in the Feedback Hub, to us on Twitter, or to Xbox Insiders Reddit. We’re listening and we’ll be back next time with more updates!
