Major Pokémon GO Update Released

Niantic has returned to the drawing board after several complaints. The Pokémon GO ‘corona’ update, where Pokéstops could be reached from further afield, was recently rolled back but people weren’t happy with me. The new update changes that again.

Before the in-game corona measures, the radius to reach a Pokéstop or Gym was around 40 meters. In order to better facilitate people with the one and a half meter rule, this was doubled. Now that most measures have been lifted in many countries, Niantic also decided to roll back a number of rules, including the 80 meter radius. Pokémon GO players complained about this because the one and a half meter rule has not been lifted everywhere. Niantic confirmed now that stays 80 meters and does not go away.

Niantic also promises to communicate even better with its players, in the following ways;

  • A Developer Diary is released every month with upcoming updates, features and events;
  • They want regular conversations with the community;
  • The Known Issues-page is being updated and should be more visible to everyone.

They hope to be even more involved with the worldwide community in this way and want to continue to listen carefully to feedback and suggestions, such as the radius problems.
