Metal Slug Awakening PS5 Fake Announcement

SNK has warned players to be wary of fake news on social media after a PS5 and PS4 version of Metal Slug: Awakening was “revealed” on Twitter this weekend. Announced by an unofficial account, the PlayStation versions of the game don’t actually exist, but the post managed to fool many.

Metal Slug: Awakening isn’t coming to PS5 and PS4

The news appeared via the @MetalSlugAwaken Twitter account and was accompanied by a 35-second video that seemed quite convincing. The Twitter account was taken down shortly after SNK issued its warning about the prank, but whether that was their decision or a forced move by SNK remains to be seen.

Metal Slug: Awakening is a real game from Timi Studio, but has only been announced for iOS and Android. Formerly known as Metal Slug Code: J, the 2D run-and-gun game omits the usual pixelated graphics for a more cartoonish look. The game has had a soft release in China and is expected to be released worldwide in June.

This isn’t the only Metal Slug game currently in development, but it won’t be coming to PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 either. Leikir Studio’s tactical RPG Metal Slug Tactics has only been confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC for now, so PlayStation players will be have to be content with the Metal Slug Anthology of Metal Slug XX for now.

In other news, Dying Light 2: Stay Human players can claim their free DLC starting today after the first volume of the Authority Pack has been released on PlayStation Store. Twitch fans can also watch streams to claim Twitch Drops as well. Elsewhere, CD Projekt Red will be holding a Cyberpunk 2077 Twitch stream tomorrow and are expected to announce the release of the native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game.
