The last Digital Foundry Analysis focuses on the recently released PS5 performance update for Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit. Their findings show that the PS5 significantly outperforms the Xbox Series X, with fairly large frame rate drops.
The PS5 version has no problem whatsoever and adheres to a consistent 60 FPS during Digital Foundry’s tests. However, in one part of the track, which takes about three turns, the frame rate on Xbox Series X takes a massive dive. This happens in any case that takes place on the track section, which is used a lot during the game.
This huge variation in frame rate can also be seen on the Xbox One X version of the game compared to the PS4 Pro version. So the problem lies purely in the way the game is run or compiled on the Xbox systems. PS4 Pro does suffer from this fall, but the PS5 version works fine and hits 60 FPS perfectly. Digital Foundry does stress that this problem is likely due to software and not hardware. The Xbox Series X does get Auto-HDR, while the PS5 does not have this feature.
