Nintendo has announced that no digital games and DLC will be available for purchase for the Wii U and 3DS from the end of March 2023.
Nintendo lets through a message on their site know that the eShop for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U will close.
Until the end of March, gamers can still buy their handheld and console games digitally, but after that you will have to look for physical games. You can still download previously purchased content after that time. In addition, it is still possible to continue to play the games (digitally).
Incidentally, this move by Nintendo is not entirely incomprehensible, since the company’s focus has been on the Switch for some time. In addition, since August 29, 2022, it has no longer been possible to top up the balance of an account in the Nintendo eShop for the Wii U or Nintendo 3DS with a Nintendo eShop Card.
Nintendo calls the closure of the eShop for the 3DS and Wii U “part of a natural product life cycle as they become less used by customers over time”. What do you think of this move? Do you have any games you’d like to play for any of these platforms? Be sure to let us know in the comments!
