After months of speculation and suspense letters to outside companies, Sony has unveiled their first official replaceable covers for the PS5 console. Five different color covers will be available, all matching Dualsense controllers of the same color. This means that three new color variants of the DualSense controller have also been announced.
The five covers are available in Midnight Black, Cosmic Red, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue and Galactic Purple. Together they form the Galaxy Collection. The first two colors match the existing DualSense controllers in Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. The other three are brand new colors and they get DualSense controllers to match.
All covers are available for both the disc console and the digital-only console and simply click into place after the original white covers are removed. An official console teardown video released in October 2020 showed how easy it is to remove the covers and how easy it is to apply custom faceplates.
The three new DualSense controller variants will be released “starting” in January 2022. As for the console covers, the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red will also be available “starting” in January 2022 in the following countries: US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea and the Philippines. The remaining three colors will also be released in those regions before the end of June 2022. If you don’t see your country in the list above, don’t panic, as Sony promises to bring the covers to more regions in 2022.
Sony added that customers in the US, UK, France and Germany could get early access to some of these items if they order through Playstation Direct. The Galactic Purple DualSense controller will be available on PlayStation Direct on January 14, and will hit other retailers on February 11. Meanwhile, the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red PS5 covers will be available on PlayStation Direct starting January 21st before arriving at other retailers on February 18th. .
