While infamous scalping group CrepChiefNotify made headlines for their exploits, an unrelated lone salesperson has also managed to make $ 40,000 in one week selling PlayStation 5 consoles. As reported by Business Insider, the man known only as “Mark F” managed to acquire a shipment of 221 PS5 consoles to resell to desperate customers.
The US-based seller has acquired his inventory through a combination of bots and real online sales. Between 110 digital-only consoles and 111 disc consoles, his venture cost a total of $ 99,500. He then resold the consoles for $ 1,000 each, more than double their original price. With a profit of at least $ 500 on each machine, he makes a pretty sizable amount of money – just last week alone, he managed to make $ 40,000 selling PS5.
With many people clamoring to get their hands on the latest console, despite its outrageous prices, it doesn’t seem to be short of potential buyers. While Sony has promised more inventory will be released by the end of the year, desperate families have taken to the secondary market to make sure they can get their hands on the latest PlayStation console in time for Christmas. At the rate he goes, he will likely sell all those consoles without any issues.
Retailers struggle to fight the use of bots that steal consoles from real customers. As a result, those who try to avoid the secondary market become increasingly frustrated. Limited stock sells out in seconds at all retailers, with many people waiting in line for hours before being told there is nothing left. As someone who is personally struggling to find a PS5 console and who doesn’t want to pay a stupid price for it, the whole situation is incredibly disappointing.
