PSVR 2 Release Date Speculation Fueled By Mysterious Shipment

PSVR 2 release date speculation is running wild again. Trust that internet sleuths will go to great lengths to find information you didn’t know you would be interested in. It’s not uncommon to see LinkedIn profiles and job postings, but this one takes the cake. Folks at TweakTown somehow found a ledger entry for international shipments from London, UK to Virginia, US, showing Sony Interactive Entertainment sent a shipment of unspecified consoles labeled as prototypes in November.

Is the PSVR 2 release date right around the corner?

Many people’s first guess is that Sony will probably ship PS5s, but that wouldn’t make sense for two reasons, the obvious being that the PS5 has already been released and wouldn’t be marked as prototype. Second, Sony is unlikely to ship its finished products from London to Virginia. On the other hand, we don’t know which route Sony’s shipments are taking and why. Interestingly, a recent report suggests that PSVR 2 is slated to be released in Q1 2023 and that Sony plans to begin production sometime in the summer. Given this, a shipment of PSVR 2 prototypes seems like a more plausible theory.

According to TweakTown, the shipment weighed 1,500 pounds, divided into four boxes. Make this what you want.

Opinion: is that you, PS5 Pro?

Zamena writes… Here’s a wild one: A recently filed patent application by PlayStation architect Mark Cerny revealed that Sony wants to improve ray tracing in video games. According to Digital Foundry, the patent describes hardware not included in current PS5 models, leading some people to wonder if Sony was playing with some sort of PS5 Pro. You know where I’m going with this, right? Don’t mind me, I’m just speculating, but crazier things have happened…

In other news, Elden Ring is the biggest non-Call of Duty and non-FIFA launch in the UK since Red Dead Redemption 2, and future updates to Gran Turismo 7 have been outlined.
