South of the Circle, a narrative drama about love and promises, comes to Xbox

south of the circle tells a cinematic story of survival, hope and love. A story about those beautiful moments in life that are worth preserving and making great promises. But we also deal with the big question: how do power and politics affect people and how can they lead to disaster? And it couldn’t be done without one, a plane crash in particular in Antarctica during the Cold War.

I was fascinated by the surreal beauty of Antarctica, particularly in the 1960s, due to how low technology was at the time. They were still hunting seals with wooden rifles, they had no communication. It was a fascinating time, like the time of the Cold War. A family friend was working in Antarctica at the time and survived a plane crash, as did Peter, a Cambridge academic and south of the circle protagonist. Our family friend also helped establish the Antarctic Treaty, a peace agreement that keeps the world safe from nuclear war, and the tension in the game depends on this. As Peter is forced into a blizzard in search of survival, he remembers all of his past. He meets the wonderful Clara, a fellow academic, and experiences a blossoming romantic and intellectual love affair that brings him to the point where we see him. How will he reconcile feelings with an ambitious career? What if he can keep his promises?

In south of the circle, we explore what happens to a person when all the structures that surround them in everyday life are removed. Who are we when we are separated from all political and social constructions? It was a great way to explore someone’s mind because when you’re in an environment like that, what else do you have? And the aforementioned surreal beauty? Even now, retired, our family friend is still drawn to Antarctica. I was even lucky enough to travel with him on a research trip for this game, to explore the magical attraction of it. We all have that image of the perfect iceberg floating in Antarctica, but when we get there we discover that there are things like sunken volcanic craters, which have black ash on the sides, hidden from ships, so you can sail right into the center of them. . Even on a gray day, when there is no color anywhere, which is interesting in itself as black and white. The sounds were really inspiring, you can hear things from miles away. Once, right in front of us in the bay, a building-sized chunk of ice broke off, fell into the water, and created a sound unlike anything I had ever heard before. It was like thunder crashing in four different places at once and echoing around and the sound stayed there for a minute afterwards, and then went completely silent again.

We wanted to tell the story about power and the individual and how these great powers can affect our lives. A lot has happened socially since the 1960s and this game explores the struggles that Clara, in particular, faced in trying to be an academic at the time. She is part of the second wave of feminism and has ambitions to be a successful academic that are held back in many ways by the power structures that surround her. But the more we worked on the story of Peter and Clara, the more apparent it became that this was the story of the individual and the choices we make. We realized that the most interesting and important things in our lives are all those little emotional decisions and promises we make in life. And we really want you to experience this as if you were there. We have worked with some of the best actors in the world, including Gwilym Lee from “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Olivia Vinall from “The Woman in White” and Anton Lesser from “Game of Thrones” to give the characters a real authenticity, and we developed a way to speak to them in-game with the fluidity and emotion of a real conversation.

South of the Circle is an emotional storytelling experience with a deep, multi-layered cinematic story. The main plot asks questions about the consequences of life choices, of pursuing a career or true love, maneuvering between the present and the past. You play Peter, a Cambridge academic who crash lands in Cold War Antarctica. As he seeks help, his past is revealed to him, revealing how the pressures of power and his own aspirations have led him to this crisis from which he must somehow escape. A love affair develops between him and his academic colleague Clara, and Peter discovers the weight of all the things he has promised. Like childhood memories, some promises stay with us forever. Masterfully Executed Cinematic Sensation Created by BAFTA State of Play winners, the game’s beautiful aesthetic and nuanced writing underscore its broad cinematic scope, further enhanced by actors drawn from “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Gwilym Lee), “The Woman in White ” (Olivia Vinall), “The Crown” (Richard Goulding), “Game of Thrones” (Anton Lesser), “Chernobyl” (Adrian Rawlins) and “Downton Abbey” (Michael Fox).
