Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands has six classes, multiclassing and armor

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a high-fantasy RPG-inspired spin-off from the border areas franchise, will reportedly feature six different classes to choose from, as well as the ability to multi-class and a range of armor and amulets that will improve players’ stats. Senior Producer Kayla Belmore describes some of the notable changes and additions to: Wonderlands of the border areas franchise, comparable to the Attack on Dragon Keep DLC released for Borderlands 2 in 2013.

In an interview with the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu, Belmore revealed that: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will offer six classes at the start of the game – a departure from the border areas series’ mainstay four-class/character system. She also notes that players’ appearance will be “completely separate” from their class, allowing players to customize their appearance regardless of the classes they’ve chosen. Each class’ skill tree will feature two binary class skills to choose from, with players assigning skill points as they see fit.

Additionally, notes Belmore, players will be able to choose a second class later in the game — a feature common in traditional tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons and JRPGs like Final Fantasy XII— add even more depth and possibilities in class combinations.

A recently revealed gameplay trailer for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands various characters depicted with magical spells. On this, Kayla clarifies that magic will be separate from character classes, meaning any character of any class can cast any spell, regardless of their abilities. Furthermore, the same applies to armor; yet another new addition to the series that, while offering class-based stat boosts, is not tied to any specific class.

Creative Director Matt Cox states that: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will focus heavily on character building through loot and gear, rather than character classes. While skill trees are kept relatively simple, the game’s wide variety of amulets, armor, rings, magic, and weapons provides a myriad of character building options. The game will even feature a traditional stat system with DEX and STR, to which players can award “hero points” and further increase their character’s skills.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands will be published on March 25, 2022.
