Season Two: Just Over the Horizon

We shared a bit about Season 2 back in March, and we’re here today to say that features like the map preference system, fully remappable tickets, and the player color picker are coming in July…along with a few other changes. interesting. !

Those of you who participated in our recent Public Update Preview may have already had a chance to try out some of these features (and thanks for the feedback, by the way!). Here is an overview of some of what you can expect:

  • Introducing the Player Color Picker! You asked for it, and it’s almost here. With this new setting, players can choose a color or have a randomly assigned color at the start of a match that will appear in-game and on the minimap in single player skirmishes, multiplayer custom matches, quick matches, and ranked matches.
  • Based on your feedback, we’ve continued to refine the hotkeys to ensure you can customize and play the way you want. In the second season, we will introduce the new Fully remappable hotkey layoutas well as making changes to how hotkey conflicts work and reorganizing the remap menus to make hotkeys easier to find.
  • For some time, we’ve been hearing requests from the community for a way to give players a say over the maps they play in Quick Match and Ranked Multiplayer. With this update, we add our first version of aMap preferences systemthat will give you influence over the maps you will find in the ladder game. When the Season 2 update is released, we will share FAQs and other details that describe how the system works.
  • Speaking of maps, we’ll be introducing a new map in Season 2, called The Pit! This map takes a competitive approach with a mostly open layout.

We’ll have more to share in the coming weeks, including significant balance changes, new seasonal event rewards, and our Season 2 theme!

With all this and more coming to Age of Empires IV Coming soon, it’s the perfect time to join in on the fun! Age IV featured in the Steam Summer Sale starting today, June 23drand also available with PC Game Pass or Ultimate.

Season Three: What’s to Come

At the beginning of the first season, we sent out a survey to players asking much asking questions about how our players felt about the update and asking for guidance on our next steps. In some cases, your responses validated some work we already had in place (such as the Map Preference System), and in other cases, your responses helped us shift our priorities.

One thing we learned is that we have a lot of players who like to rank in theory, but would rather enjoy it with others. As a result of that feedback, we made it a priority to introduce our first iteration of Team Ranked in Season 3. We’ll be exploring some other significant changes to Ranked based on other learnings from the survey, as well as starting early discussions on what we can do to provide more opportunities to allow players to enjoy themselves. Age IV in more social and less competitive ways.

We’ll also be looking to introduce two features you’ve been looking for for a while: taunts and cheats! While our starting point with Taunts and Tricks is heavily inspired by what you’ve seen and experienced in previous Years titles, we will look to expand this space as we go. When it comes to cheats, we’ll be offering some of the ones you’ve seen in the past, as well as some new stuff, both functional and fun. When it comes to unique units, we hope we’ll ask for your feedback once our first Cheats offering is released so we can continue to entertain.

And of course, it goes without saying that this is just a small glimpse of what is to come. there are much more we look forward to sharing with you as we get closer to season three.
