X-men actor wants to return in the MCU

Since Disney regained the rights to the X-men, some actors from the Marvel franchise on Fox have returned to reprise their roles and there is one of its stars who is asking to do so.

Actor Kodi Smit-McPhee is having quite the awards season lately. His participation in the power of the dog Netflix has awarded him a Golden Globe for best supporting actor and is nominated for the Oscars in the same category. However, he has recently revealed that he would like to return to the X-Men and Marvel to reprise his role as Nightcrawler.

In a recent interview for Variety on their Podcast Awards Circuit. McPhee was asked if he would appear as his X-Men character Nightcrawler in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, and this is what the Oscar-nominated star had to say:

“I really believe in the MCU and I’ve made it my goal to wait and… get into other production companies that do superhero stuff because I believe so much in the MCU and I hope to be a part of that family one day. You know, we all know they own the rights to Nightcrawler and stuff now, so…hint, hint, nudge, nudge.”

It’s clear that Kodi Smit-McPhee is clamoring to rejoin the Marvel family. The actor made his debut as Nightcrawler in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) by Bryan Singer, a film that rejuvenated many of the most popular X-Men characters who appeared in the original trilogy in the early 2000s. McPhee later reprized the role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019), film that put an end to the team of mutants at Fox.

However, the possibility that Kodi Smit-McPhee appears in the UCM along with other of his companions in X-men, although it is difficult, it is not impossible either. Marvel owns the rights to the character thanks to Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heavily incorporates the multiverse, a term coined to describe alternate timelines and realities that could possibly interconnect.

The concept of the Multiverse was a major plot point in Spiderman: No Way Home and of course it will be a crucial part of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. In the Superbowl trailer for the upcoming movie starring Benedict Cumberpatch, co-star of the power of the dogthe story focused heavily on the multiverse and seemed to feature the voice of Patrick Stewart’s Professor Xavier.

Patrick Stewart has gone to great lengths to deflect and deny his involvement in the upcoming Marvel movie, but it seems pretty clear that Xavier is involved. If Xavier is involved, surely the rest of the X-Men will follow? It sounds like Kodi Smit-McPhee is excited about that idea and it would surely be a treat for fans to see his iteration of Nightcrawler teleporting into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spiderman: No Way Home It showed just how powerful bringing back characters from other franchises can be, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Kevin Feige bring back the entire X-Men clan. Surely it is a matter of time.

Kodi Smit-McPhee isn’t the only X-Men actor asked if he’s involved in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. Not long ago, Ryan Reynolds was asked about possibly including him in the film as the loudmouth mercenary from dead pool (There are already people who have seen it in the latest poster of Doctor Strange 2). The actor has denied involvement, but as many Marvel fans will know, a denial can often mean the opposite. Will Deadpool, Kodi Smit-McPhee’s Nightcrawler and the rest of the X-Men team appear in the MCU? Most likely, it will not be a question of if, but when.
