Xbox Activision deal: Retailer reportedly warns PS5 buyers

Just before the weekend, a ResetEra user shared a post reportedly posted at one of the stores of Belgian supermarket Cora in France warning potential PS5 buyers to reconsider their purchase decision in light of the recent Activision Blizzard acquisition. by Microsoft.

“Brand to gamers, Microsoft has bought Activision,” the sign reads. “Choose your machine carefully.” Under this printed warning someone wrote by hand “Duty” in brackets, referring to the theory that after the next three iterations, future Duty games become exclusive to Microsoft.

The sign has been going around all weekend, with people weighing in as if it were real, but we’re not so sure.

Xbox Activision acquisition pending approval

Some users who believe that the board is genuine think that Cora is doing the right thing by informing customers who are unaware of any news about the video game industry. It’s hard to believe, though, that Cora would make this announcement in any official capacity, as it’s highly unlikely the retailer would jeopardize its relationship with Sony by promoting one console over another in this way, especially since the deal will not be closed for another year and is pending regulatory approval.

Two things occurred to me: this was either the work of a lone employee or a prank by a customer. As for the latter, several ResetEra users have claimed that the board was posted by an Xbox fan who said he did it on an online forum. However, no one has been able to indicate from which forum this originated and/or a link to the original claim.

Opinion: Retailers don’t care about the Xbox Activision acquisition

Zamena writes… Retailers are least concerned about acquisitions in the sector. Their job is to sell products and make a profit. I refuse to believe that Cora approved this. This board has all the hallmarks of an internet troll looking to wage console wars, which isn’t hard to achieve.

In other news, Hideo Kojima is rumored to be working on a PSVR 2 game, and Evil Dead: the game has been postponed to May 2022.
